March 7, 2025. As times are changing, so is the look of tree planting and this year, it will be bright, with everyone wearing Hi Vis. Many of you have heard the rumors about Hi Vis and yes, it is now required.
The WorkSafeBC requirements are based on three parts of the Regulation:
1. Working around mobile equipment exceeding 30km/h = Class 2 Hi Vis
2. Working around mobile equipment traveling less than 30 km/h = Class 1 Hi Vis
3. Working in the land requiring wellness checks (we have received orders on this before) = distinguishing apparel with fluorescent trim
To meet all three pieces of Regulation, we require that everyone is wearing Hi Vis apparel while working for Blue Collar. We believe that everyone at Blue Collar should be working to the same safety standards and the highest safety standard, no matter what the provincial regulations are for each camp. (This does not apply to being in camp where equipment is separated from people).
We will provide one piece of Class 2 Hi Vis for everyone. Imagine that you will be required to wear Hi Vis when it is hot, when you have a sweater or jacket in the morning and when it is raining, and you are wearing a rain jacket. We will provide a versatile piece for all these conditions, but you are welcome to also bring other pieces of CSA Class 2 Hi Vis that make you feel comfortable.
Some examples of CSA Class 2 are shown below, and each piece will clearly indicate it is CSA Class 2 on the tag:
